Background:
|
In accordance with the textbooks/instructional materials adoption rules of Administrative Policy 7.26, Textbooks/Instructional Materials Adoption, textbooks/instructional materials evaluation committees were formed as a result of the Board’s action on October 28, 2021, which opened subject areas for selection studies. The committees have completed the necessary studies with respect to grades K5-2, grades 3-5 and grades 6-8 Social Studies, U.S. History, World History, Citizenship, and are recommending the following for adoption for use during the 2022-2023 school year: K5 McGraw Hill: Learning and Working Together (English and Spanish) 1st grade McGraw Hill: Our Place in the World (English and Spanish) 2nd grade McGraw Hill: Exploring Who We Are (English and Spanish) 3rd grade McGraw Hill: Our Communities (English and Spanish) 4th grade McGraw Hill: Regions of the United States (English and Spanish) Wisconsin Historical Society Press: Wisconsin: Our State Our Story (English and Spanish) 5th grade: McGraw Hill: U.S. History: A New Nation (English and Spanish) 6th grade HMH: United States Reconstruction to Present (English and Spanish) 7th grade HMH: World Civilizations (part 1) (English and Spanish) 8th grade HMH: World Civilizations (part 2) (English and Spanish) U.S History TCI: History Alive! Approval of this item authorizes expenditures. The estimated cost for selection of the recommended textbooks/instructional materials is $14,910,000. Funding is included in the FY22 budget, budget code Textbooks – GEN-0-0-INV-DW-ETXB. |

Implementation and Assessment Plan: |
Contracts will be brought back to the Board for approval. Textbooks/instructional materials and online tools for the recommended adoptions will be purchased in FY22 with funds that have been allocated in FY22. Professional development and online tools will be implemented during the 2022-2023 school year.

Recommendation
|
The administration recommends that the Board authorize the Administration to approve the selection of the textbooks/instructional materials to be used during the 2022-2023 school year as detailed in this item and begin the contract negotiations and implementation processes as specified, including related supplementary materials such as teacher manuals, resource guides, and online resources. |
