2021 Resolution to Authorize the Renewal of the Board's Self Insurance Status.pdf
Background: It is Milwaukee Public Schools' longstanding practice to be self-insured for liability under the Wisconsin Worker's Compensation Act. In order to maintain this self-insured status, Milwaukee Public Schools is required every three years to reapply and provide the Department of Workforce Development with a resolution, passed by its governing body, stating its intent and agreement to self-insure. Wisconsin Administrative Code 80.60(3) imposes this mandate upon all Wisconsin political subdivisions and taxing authorities.
Fiscal Impact Statement: This item does not authorize expenditures other than those already allocated to the worker's compensation budget.
Implementation and Assessment Plan Upon approval by the Board, the Administration will move forward with executing the resolution.
Recommendation: Your Committee recommends that the Board adopt the resolution to authorize the renewal of the Board's self-insurance status as attached.
