Background:
|
At the state level, between the state’s budget stabilization fund and unallocated and immediately available funds Wisconsin continues to maintain an unspent balance of roughly $3 billion. Updated figures confirming the total will be available in the middle of October. A number of bills continue to move forward in the Assembly with State Superintendent making public comment (attached) about both the content and unusual hearing process related to a number of pieces of legislation. Despite available revenues, legislation has not been introduced to support school districts with basic per pupil increases and other needs. At the federal level, work continues on a number of hugely significant pieces of legislation, including President Biden’s Build Back Better proposal which includes substantial policy and funding support for K-12 education.
