Background:
|
With the Wisconsin’s legislative session likely coming to a close in March, the State, which has an unprecedented $5.6 billion of revenue on hand, has yet to provide a traditional per-pupil increase to support students. Legislators, however, have introduced a number of concerning pieces of legislation, including a proposal to break Milwaukee Public Schools into eight new school districts. Governor Evers has introduced an education package that would increase the special education reimbursement rate to 40%, increase English learners’ categorical aid, and provide a $328 per pupil increase in the 2022-23 school years. Additional policies introduced late is the session will also be discussed at this meeting.
