Background:
At the February 23, 2023, meeting, the Milwaukee Board of School Directors referred Resolution 2223R-016 by Director Carr to the Committee on Student Achievement and School Innovation. The attached resolution directs the Administration to explore the feasibility of implementing an innovative modified school week and instructional model such as a four/five day school week; year-round schools; an early release day once per week; or a late start day once per week. A School Scheduling Task Force will ensure the fidelity of the study.
Fiscal Impact Statement:
The financial impact of a feasibility study this size will be known once the procurement process is completed and a provider is selected.
Implementation and Assessment Plan
:
Upon approval of the Board, it is estimated that the implementation of a feasibility study may take up to 12 months from start to finish, including forming the School Scheduling Task Force, contracting for services of a consultant for the feasibility study, collaboration, listening sessions, data collection, analysis and report. Upon completion of the feasibility study, the results will be reviewed and the findings will be shared with the Board.
Recommendation:
Your Committee recommends that the board approve the resolution with the recommended changes in the revised attachment and a report to the Board in January 2024.
